One day after FC Cincinnati's Mitch Hildebrandt took home the 2016 Goalkeeper of the Year award, the USL Goal of the Month title is also headed back to the Queen City after Eric Stevenson's strike against Charleston Battery earned 74 percent of an online fan vote.
The result marks the second time in 2016 that the 26-year-old Ohio native has earned the honor after previously finishing atop the fan vote in June for his close-range finish against visiting Toronto FC II. In total, FC Cincinnati has collected five USL Goal of the Month titles in its inaugural season as USL Golden Boot winner Sean Okoli (April), Andrew Wiedeman (May) and Omar Cummings (July) have also earned their way into the USL Goal of the Month competition.
Stevenson finished comfortably ahead of goals from a pair of 2016 USL Cup Final participants in Swope Park Rangers striker Dane Kelly and New York Red Bulls II standout Derrick Etienne Jr. to secure the final Goal of the Month title of the campaign. Kelly's tally against Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 in the Western Conference Final earned nine percent of the vote while Etienne's opener in a dominant championship victory for NYRBII rounded out the top-three at six percent.
