LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Louisville City FC announced on Wednesday it had re-signed three-time USL All-League selection George Davis IV to a new contract. The signing is pending league and USSF approval.

Davis, a former standout at the University of Kentucky, returned to the Bluegrass state prior to the start of the 2016 USL regular season and had five goals and two assists in 27 appearances as Louisville finished second in the USL’s Eastern Conference. Davis also scored the game-winning goal in City’s 2-0 overtime victory against the Richmond Kickers in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals of the 2016 USL Cup Playoffs.

"We're really pleased to get George back," said City Head Coach James O'Connor. "We feel he's someone who can make a big contribution next year. Great experience, great mentor for some of the younger players, great character -- we want him to take on a leadership role.

"All of the players look up to him, which is really important, and he's someone who epitomizes what we want with our values, culture and environment. He's really bought into it."

Davis had spent the previous two seasons with the Richmond Kickers, where he scored 19 goals in 53 appearances, helping the side reach the postseason in both seasons. Davis has scored 38 goals in his USL career, earning All-League Second Team honors in 2011 and 2013, and First Team honors in 2014.

"A championship is always the goal," Davis IV said. "James has given me the platform and put me in the position to where I can be a leader for the team. I'm happy to be able to accept that role and do whatever I can on and off the field for the club."

Davis returns to a forward line for Louisville that also includes Cameron Lancaster and Ilija Ilic, as the club aims to make a third consecutive trip to the USL Cup Playoffs in 2017.
