Young forward bolsters squad ahead of stretch run in regular season

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Louisville City FC announced on Monday it had added New York City FC forward Jonathan Lewis on loan for the remainder of the season. The loan agreement had been completed prior to the USL Roster Freeze this past Friday, September 14, allowing the 21-year-old to join the club ahead of its two games this week.

“Jonathan is an incredibly talented and still developing player,” said Louisville Head Coach John Hackworth. “He’s got great pace and his ability to get past defenders and create opportunities for his teammates is a quality we’re looking forward to adding to our group.

“I had scouted him as a youth player in Plantation and then saw him when he with Akron. He has experience at a high level and is a tremendous talent.”

Born in Plantation, Fla., Lewis came through the Chicago Fire academy, Kendall SC, Plantation FC, and in England with RIASA Academy. Lewis penned his first professional contract in 2015, signing with Bradford City before being loaned out to Farsley Celtic.

Lewis returned to the United States in late 2015 and enrolled at the University of Akron, where he became the 2016 Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year with the Zips.

In January 2017, Lewis was drafted by NYCFC and made his professional debut for the club on March 18, 2017, coming on in the 79th-minute to replace attacker Jack Harrison in a 1-1 draw with the Montreal Impact. In total, Lewis has made 25 appearances with four starts, tallying three goals and four assists in that span.
