LAS VEGAS (August 18, 2018) — Phoenix Rising FC got back into the win column after defeating Las Vegas Lights FC, 2-0. Forward Solomon Asante tallied his 11th goal of the season, tied for the club lead, while forward Kevaughn Frater notched his second goal of the USL season. Zac Lubin also notched his second clean sheet of the year.

Lights FC wasted little time in creating their first chance of the evening. Less than one minute into the match, Las Vegas’ Omar Salgado ripped a shot toward the left upper 90. But Lubin dove to his right and punched the would-be goal away to keep the match scoreless.

Then forward Solomon Asante struck in the 10th minute. After his initial header on target was blocked, Asante ran after the rebounded shot, collected it, then turned back toward the goal before firing a shot low and near post to beat the goalkeeper.

Lubin made another big save near the end of the first half. On a Vegas free kick, Lubin moved to his right as the shot went to his left. But the goalkeeper managed to dive back in the direction of the ball and make the stop.

Phoenix Rising held on to its one-goal league for nearly the entire second half before extending it. Forward Billy Forbes drew a foul in the penalty area and Kevaughn Frater banged in the spot kick to earn his first goal if the USL season.

Phoenix Rising comes back home for a two-match swing in one week. The first match is Wednesday, August 22, against San Antonio FC. It’ll be $1 Beer Night presented by Bud Light and anyone with a valid college ID will get in for free. The match kicks off at 7:00 p.m.
