INDIANAPOLIS – FC Cincinnati rallied from a first-half deficit as Corben Bone recorded a goal and assist in a 3-2 victory against Indy Eleven in the USL Game of the Week before a crowd of 8,079 fans at Lucas Oil Stadium. Cincinnati was awarded a penalty kick in the fifth minute when Emery Welshman was brought down in the area after Indy failed to deal with a cross from the right, and Kenney Walker converted to the left side of the net for his third goal in as many games. The Eleven leveled in the 24th minute, however, as Walker sent an errant pass back toward the FCC goal, and while Cincinnati goalkeeper Spencer Richey was able to save Jack McInerney’s initial shot, the Indy forward put home the rebound. The hosts took the lead six minutes later when they were awarded a penalty kick of their own as Saad was brought down in the area, allowing Ayoze to convert, but FCC hit back before the break as Jimmy McLaughlin volleyed home a clever through-ball by Bone from the top of the penalty area. Bone then gave the visitors the lead nine minutes into the second half as he found space at the top of the penalty area and fired low into the left corner, and Walker almost added a fourth with a fierce shot that Indy goalkeeper Owain Fon Williams just palmed over the crossbar. Saad almost replied for Indy with eight minutes to go with another swerving shot that just went over the top-right corner of the net, but FCC held firm defensively the rest of the way to claim a fourth away win of the season.

Scoring:
7’ – CIN – Kenney Walker (penalty)
24’ – IND – Jack McInerney
30’ – IND – Ayoze (penalty)
41’ – CIN – Jimmy McLaughlin (Corben Bone)
54’ – CIN – Corben Bone (Michael Lahoud)

Three Things That Matter:

  • 1. For all the changes that Cincinnati underwent this offseason, on Wednesday night it was the reliable trio of Kenney Walker, Jimmy McLaughlin and Corben Bone that came up big when their side needed it. Members of the club since its inception, all three have become fan favorites, and the finishes produced by McLaughlin and Bone to allow the side to come back from its first-half deficit once again showed why as they powered the visitors to another big road victory.

  • 2. Indy hadn’t really come to life until it was handed a big opening thanks to an uncharacteristic error by FCC’s Kenney Walker, but once Jack McInerney found the net for the hosts’ equalizer it sparked the Eleven to life. Indy produced eight shots between the 24th minute and halftime as Ayoze also converted from the penalty spot to give the hosts the lead in a strong attacking spell that put the side firmly on top in the game.

  • 3. Indy's lead wouldn't last until the halftime break, however, as Jimmy McLaughlin's goal got the visitors back on level terms before Bone's winner early in the second half. One of the hallmarks of a title contender has been an ability to produce results on the road, and FC Cincinnati’s fourth away win of the season moved the side firmly into that category, now sitting only two points back of River Cities Cup rival Louisville City FC in second place in the Eastern Conference. After coming out with far more jump on Wednesday night than in its previous two outings, FCC will return home to Nippert Stadium on Saturday with plenty of momentum after scoring eight goals in its past three games.
