RENO, Nev. — Reno 1868 FC added another attacking piece on Thursday with the signing of former Tulsa Roughnecks FC player Christian Thierjung for the 2018 USL season. The signing pending league and federation approval.

A former San Jose Earthquakes draftee, Thierjung recorded four goals and eight key passes for the Roughnecks as Tulsa reached the postseason for the first time. A former standout at the University of California, where he scored 27 goals in his career, the 22-year-old now heads back west to link up with 1868 FC.

“Christian is an attacking-minded midfielder who can play both up top as a forward or in the midfield,” Reno Head Coach Ian Russell said. “He’s really good at making late runs from midfield into the box.”

Thierjung will aim to add to an attack that has also signed Victor Pelae this offseason, with Reno having come off a successful inaugural year that saw the club finish third in the Western Conference while scoring a single-season record 75 goals.

“I am very excited for the opportunity to join Reno this upcoming season,” Thierjung said. “Looking forward to playing for Coach Ian and this wonderful organization. I cannot wait to play in front of the great Reno fanbase with this talented squad.”
