ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Saint Louis FC announced on Wednesday the return of defender Sam Fink for his second spell at the club, with the former Wake Forest standout having spend the past season with OKC Energy FC. The signing is pending league and federation approval.

Fink previously spent two seasons with Saint Louis, and in 2015 was one of only two players to play every minute of the USL regular season in STLFC’s inaugural season. Fink made 53 regular-season appearances for Saint Louis in his first spell at the club, and notched four goals in addition to his defensive duties.

“Sam was brought to my attention by people here at the club as he was highly regarded,” said Saint Louis Head Coach Anthony Pulis. “We had a long conversation on the phone and he immediately impressed me with his personality and desire to bring success to St. Louis. I was able to watch most of his games from last season and he is a solid defender who takes up good positions, reads the game well, and is a dedicated professional who works hard.”

Fink spent the past season with Energy FC, where he made 19 appearances and started in two of OKC’s three games in the 2017 USL Cup Playoffs as the club reached the Western Conference Final. Fink won 27 of 33 tackles, and had a success rate above 60 percent in both duels and aerial duels in his season for Energy FC, and is looking forward to returning to Toyota Stadium – Saint Louis to play for Pulis.

“Anthony has a fantastic vision for the future of this club and I’m honored he has chosen me to take part in it,” said Fink. “The fans continually prove to be some of the best in the league and it’s time they are rewarded for their unwavering support. I will give absolutely all that I have to make sure we are soaring to new heights in 2018.”
