Cascadia clash sees both teams needing victory to keep playoffs hopes alive

TUKWILA, Wash. – Seattle Sounders FC 2 hosts the Portland Timbers 2 at Starfire Stadium on Monday in a crucial contest for both Cascasdia clubs as they look to keep their slim playoff hopes alive in the USL Western Conference. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. PT.


Seattle Sounders FC 2 news and notes

  • Current record: 7-11-6, 27pts
  • Seattle fell for a second consecutive game in its last outing as San Antonio FC took a 1-0 victory last Saturday night at Toyota Field.
  • The defeat dropped Seattle to 13th place in the Western Conference, four points behind San Antonio at the start of Saturday’s action.
  • Seattle has been held scoreless in back-to-back games after a six-game undefeated streak pulled the side back into playoff position.
  • S2 faces Vancouver in a home-and-home series over its two games following Monday night’s tilt, with the two sides set to meet on Friday night at Starfire Stadium and Monday, Sept. 5 in Vancouver.

Portland Timbers 2 news and notes

  • Current record: 7-13-4, 25pts
  • T2 has suffered back-to-back defeats to drop back in the race for the playoffs, falling 4-0 to Sacramento Republic FC last Saturday.
  • Portland outshot Sacramento 16-12, but put only four of its shots on target as Evan Newton recorded the shutout for Republic FC, while the hosts recorded nine shots on goal.
  • T2 is now six points behind eighth-place San Antonio FC as the weekend’s action kicks off with six games remaining in its regular season.
  • Portland’s Villyan Bijev has six assists this season, sits two back of Sacramento’s Danny Barrera for the USL lead.
