Visitors pull off surprise victory as USL players lead the way

Led by goals from Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2’s Kadin Chung and Marco Bustos, the Canada U20 National Team earned a surprise 2-1 victory against an England side that included Manchester United phenom Marcus Rashford on Sunday.

Eight members of Canada’s starting 11 are set to compete in the USL this season, with FC Montreal’s James Pantemis in goal and club teammate Ballou Jean-Yves Tabla also included. Tabla played a role in Canada’s opening goal, scored by Chung in the 14th minute.

Bustos, who finished tied for most goals in WFC2’s inaugural season last year then made it two with a spectacular solo effort in the 68th minute.

England pulled a goal back as Rashford set up Kasey Palmer to make it 2-1, but Pantemis and his defense held on late to earn an impressive victory.

“We worked on creating a culture within the camp,” Gale said in a release. “These boys faced quality this week and they have been first class—that's what led to the result.”

As Canada begins its preparations for CONCACAF Qualifying for the 2017 FIFA U20 World Cup, it couldn’t have gotten off to a better start.
