Global movement aimed at elevating women within the beautiful game will host launch party on Wednesday

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – New Mexico United and the Somos Unidos Foundation announced on Monday it had become a founding partner of “Women in Soccer,” a global movement aimed at connecting all women and allies who love the beautiful game, and elevating representation, status and opportunities for women across soccer.

“We are beyond excited to join women and allies across soccer to fight for positive change and representation within our footballing world,” said Chanel Wiese, Executive Director of the Somos Unidos Foundation. “We have the power to make the soccer world one that represents - and is accessible to - everyone. That starts with advocating for women of all races, religions, identities, and statuses. We are honored to be part of that fight within our community.”

"New Mexico United and their Somos Unidos Foundation are doing game-changing things in the USL to increase diversity in coaching and beyond, and we are honored to have their support,” said Courtney Caroll Levinsohn, Founder of Women in Soccer. “As a WIS founding partner, New Mexico Untied and the Somos Unidos Foundation will have the opportunity to promote their incredible work to a wider audience while continuing to be a supportive community to their employees and fans."

Members of the New Mexico United and Somos Unidos Foundation family on the field, in the front office, and in the stands can join the network for free. WIS offers three membership types: Community Member, Expert Member, and Ally Member. All of the WIS membership types offer the opportunity to connect using an inclusive language you know and love. Whether you're looking to work in the game, personally or professionally develop, grow your love of the game in a wider community, or support the movement for a more equitable soccer world, WIS’s aim is to support the goals of its membership.

WIS’s official launch party will be held on Wednesday and include appearances by Sky Blue FC General Manager Alyse LaHue, former U.S. Women’s National Team member Brandi Chastain and former San Diego Loyal SC assistant coach Carrie Taylor among others. Registration is now open online.
