After a busy Week 1 in the 2019 USL Championship regular season there are some familiar faces in the mix for the first USL Fans’ Choice Save of the Week award. Vote for your favorite from the five saves we’ve picked out from a record-setting weekend of action across the league.
USL Championship Fans’ Choice Save of the Week – Week 1
Matt Cardone (SA) - #SAvPHX, 3/9/19: Cardone produced an excellent stop to keep out a long-range free kick by Phoenix’s Doue Mala late in the clash between contenders at Toyota Field.
David Ochoa (SLC) - #SACvSLC, 3/9/19: The United States U-20 international came off his line quickly and stayed big to produce a reflex save on Sacramento’s Cameron Iwasa at Papa Murphy’s Park.
Jake Fenlason (STL) - #STLvIND, 3/9/19: Fenlason went at full stretch to his right to deny the Championship’s all-time leading scorer Dane Kelly from the penalty spot at Toyota Stadium – Saint Louis.
Carl Woszczynski (PHX) - #SAvPHX, 3/9/19: Woszczynski got down well at his near post to deny a low shot by San Antonio’s Billy Forbes from the right side of the penalty area to keep his side’s deficit at one goal late.
Cody Mizell (NM) - #NMvFRS, 3/9/19: Mizell came up with a diving save to his left and kept out a strong header by Fresno’s Jemal Johnson to help preserve the first point in New Mexico United’s history.
