Goalkeeper was 35th overall pick in MLS SuperDraft in 2014

PHOENIX (December 11, 2017) — Phoenix Rising FC announced today it has signed goalkeeper John Berner for the 2018 season. Berner was previously a member of Major League Soccer club Colorado Rapids and spent a brief stint on loan with the club in 2017.

“I'm extremely happy to sign with Phoenix," Berner said. "I was able to come down here for a month this past season and get to work with the staff and team and saw first-hand how class of an organization it was from top to bottom. Very excited we were able to work out a deal and look forward to a successful season and moving forward with this club.”

Berner had been a member of the Colorado Rapids since 2014 when he was the 35th overall pick in the MLS SuperDraft. He has appeared in five MLS matches, all in 2014, recording two shutouts with a 1.20 Goals Against Average. Prior to his professional career, Berner was a two-time Missouri Valley Conference Goalkeeper of the Year while he attended SIU-Edwardsville.
