Riverhounds look to push into playoff positions against Louisville

PITTSBURGH – With a spot in the USL Cup Playoffs positions on offer, the Pittsburgh Riverhounds will have a tough task as they take on the Eastern Conference-leader Louisville City FC at Highmark Stadium on Saturday night. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET.

Pittsburgh Riverhounds news and notes

  • Current record: 8-8-10, 34pts

  • The Riverhounds come into this match after continuing an undefeated run with a 1-1 draw against FC Cincinnati last Saturday at Nippert Stadium.

  • Corey Hertzog opened the scoring for the Riverhounds just three minutes in before FCC fought back and managed an equalizer before the halftime break as the teams settled for a point apiece.

  • With that goal Hertzog extended his team lead, scoring his 11th goal of the season. It was also the 24th goal of his Riverhounds career, moving him into fourth place all-time for the club.

  • Pittsburgh is in the middle of a five-match unbeaten run (3-0-2) that has pushed the side within a point of the top eight in the USL Eastern Conference. With a win, the Riverhounds could end the weekend in sixth position in the standings.

  • Louisville comes into this match following a 1-0 victory against the Charleston Battery at Slugger Field, which kept the side on top of the USL's Eastern Conference.

  • A 78th-minute strike from Guy Abend provided the only goal of the game. It was Abend's first goal of the season after having tallied five times for the club in 2016.

  • Abend’s performance saw him earn a place on the USL Team of the Week. On top of his goal Abend completed 67 of 77 passes, proving vital the center of midfield in the win.

  • Louisville sits in fourth place in the USL with 45 goals this season despite not having any players in the league's top 10 goalscorers.
