TAMPA, Fla. – The United Soccer League has announced that Saturday’s scheduled contest between San Antonio FC and the Portland Timbers 2 has been postponed to Wednesday, Oct. 11 due to the presence of Hurricane Harvey in the region this weekend. Kickoff on Oct. 11 will be at 8:30 p.m. ET.

“The league and clubs both agreed that for the safety of the players and fans this decision needed to be made,” said USL VP of League Operations Brett Luy. “We appreciate the understanding of the fans in making this decision given the serious nature of the situation.”

The National Weather Service in Miami, Fla. issued an advisory on Thursday evening that the severe weather moving toward Texas through the Gulf of Mexico had been upgraded to Hurricane status. With major flooding and high winds expected, USL officials and both San Antonio FC and the Portland Timbers organizations agreed the game should be postponed.
