PITTSBURGH (August 21, 2017) – The Pittsburgh Riverhounds will host the third night of their “Health Series” with Pediatric Orthopaedic Awareness Night at Highmark Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 26 against Bethlehem Steel FC.

Presented by Allegheny Health Network (AHN) – the official medical provider of the Riverhounds – the Health Series is designed to educate fans and generate awareness about a range of health topics including heart disease prevention, pediatric orthopaedic and concussion awareness, prostate and cancer awareness, and ways to live a healthy life and avoid injury.

On Pediatric Orthopaedic Awareness Night, fans can put their orthopaedic surgical skills to the test on Cavity Sam by participating in a giant-sized game of “Operation.” Fans will also have the opportunity to engage with the staff from AHN’s Pediatric Orthopaedic Institute.

The Pediatric Orthopaedic Institute, located in Wexford, is the region’s most comprehensive center for pediatric orthopaedic care. It offers patients same-day access for orthopaedic injuries, concussion management services, state-of-the-art diagnostic capabilities, and more.

Board-certified family and sports medicine physician, Marco Alcala, MD, who specializes in non-surgical orthopaedics, will deliver the game ball. In addition to serving at the Pediatric Orthopaedic Institute’s Concussion and Sports Medicine Center, Dr. Alcala is the team physician for Avonworth and Moon high schools, and also serves as a team physician for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

“On behalf of the Pediatric Orthopaedic Institute’s staff, we are proud to participate in Pediatric Orthopaedic Awareness Night. We look forward to cheering on the Riverhounds with fans of all ages,” Dr. Alcala said.
