Energy FC, Switchbacks look for boost as rivalry renews

OKLAHOMA CITY – OKC Energy FC and Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC renew their rivalry on Saturday night at Taft Stadium for the second meeting between the clubs this season, with both looking to boost the postseason hopes. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. CT.

OKC Energy FC news and notes

  • Current record: 5-8-4, 19pts

  • Energy FC grabbed a late point in its last outing against San Antonio FC as Miguel Gonzalez scored in stoppage time at Toyota Field in a 1-1 draw.

  • OKC had missed a penalty with five minutes to go when Coady Andrews rattled the crossbar after a handball in the area, but Gonzalez’s volleyed finish in the fourth minute of stoppage time salvaged a draw on the road.

  • Energy FC’s winless streak is currently five games, as the side sits three points behind eight-placed Tulsa Roughnecks FC in the standings.

  • Gonzalez’s goal was his first since April 11 against Sacramento Republic FC, when his bicycle-kick finish earned the No. 1 spot on the ESPN SportsCenter Top 10.

  • The Switchbacks suffered a 2-1 defeat to Phoenix Rising FC last Saturday night as Kevaughn Frater’s first-half goal was overturned by the hosts in the second half at the Phoenix Rising Soccer Complex.

  • Colorado Springs is on a three-game winless streak, but remains in sixth position in the USL Western Conference going into the weekend.

  • Frater’s goal was his fifth of the season, and moved him level with Masta Kacher for the team lead.
