Reno looks to build on positive momentum north of border

VANCOUVER, B.C. – Reno 1868 FC will look to continue its positive momentum, and bolster its place in the Western Conference playoff positions, when it visits a Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 side looking to rebound from a defeat in midweek on Saturday afternoon at Thunderbird Stadium. Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 news and notes

  • Current record: 4-9-4, 16pts

  • WFC2 fell 1-0 to the Swope Park Rangers on Wednesday afternoon at Thunderbird Stadium in a rematch of the Western Conference Final of the 2016 USL Cup Playoffs.

  • Vancouver is now winless in its last six outings, and remains in 12th place in the Western Conference standings.

  • Former WFC2 standout Alphonso Davies is playing a key role for Canada at the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup, leading the tournament with three goals in the team’s first two games.

  • Vancouver recorded a season-high 19 shots when it first squared off with Reno this season. WFC2 has 157 total shots this season, placing it 24th in the USL.

  • 1868 FC is coming off a record-setting league outing, as it defeated the LA Galaxy II 9-0 at Greater Nevada Field on July 3.

  • Chris Wehan had two goals and two assists in the contest, and is now tied for the league lead with seven assists this season.

  • Reno played host to Club Atlas of Liga MX in the club’s first international exhibition on Saturday night, as more than 6,600 fans filled Greater Nevada Field for the contest.

  • 1868 FC is set to be without five players on Saturday, with the quintet called up by the San Jose Earthquakes for the club’s international exhibition against the Bundesliga’s Eintracht Frankfurt.
