I-4 Derby kicks off for second time this season

ORLANDO, Fla. – This season’s second edition of the I-4 Derby kicks off on Thursday night when Orlando City B plays host to the Tampa Bay Rowdies at Orlando City Stadium with the visitors looking to build off a big victory in their last outing. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.

Orlando City B news and notes

  • Current record: 5-6-6, 21pts

  • Orlando recorded a second consecutive draw on Saturday night as it finished 0-0 against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds at Orlando City Stadium.

  • Goalkeeper Earl Edwards Jr. recorded two saves to post his fifth shutout of the season, and is now tied for third in the USL with 50 saves.

  • Midfielder Richie Laryea has been putting in strong two-way performances for OCB, sitting tied for the team lead with three goals on 13 shots on target, while also winning 21-of-22 tackles and 79-of-128 duels.

  • Orlando will be without playmaker Pierre Da Silva, who leads the team with six assists and 25 chances created, as he serves the second game of a three-game suspension.

Tampa Bay Rowdies news and notes

  • Current record: 7-5-6, 27pts

  • The Rowdies recorded a 2-0 victory against FC Cincinnati last Thursday night in the USL Game of the Week on ESPNU to snap a seven-game winless streak.

  • Martin Paterson and Joe Cole scored for Tampa Bay before a lightning delay of almost two hours just before the end of the first half, and the Rowdies held firm after the teams return to see out the win.

  • Midfielder Alex Morrell recorded the assist on Paterson’s goal, and was the catalyst for Cole’s rebound finish, and earned USL Team of the Week honors for his performance.

  • The Rowdies will be without defender Damion Lowe, who started and went the full 90 minutes in Jamaica’s 2-0 win against Curaçao at the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup on Sunday.
