Steel FC looks to continue hot streak against Kickers

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Bethlehem Steel FC will look to continue its strong run of recent form when it plays host to a Richmond Kickers side at Goodman Stadium on Saturday evening that is in serious need of a victory to kick-start a push for the postseason. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. ET.

Bethlehem Steel FC news and notes

  • Current record: 7-6-1, 22pts

  • Steel FC earned its fourth win in its last five games as it defeated the Harrisburg City Islanders 1-0 on June 20 at FNB Field.

  • James Chambers scored the only goal of the game between the Pennsylvania rivals for his third goal of the season, which places the midfielder second on the team.

  • Steel FC Cory Burke was named on Thursday to Jamaica’s 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup squad, and will join up with the Reggae Boyz following Saturday’s game.

  • Bethlehem’s strong recent run has moved the side into the top four of the USL Eastern Conference, three points back of second-place Louisville City FC.

Richmond Kickers news and notes

  • Current record: 2-8-5, 11pts

  • The Kickers fell 2-0 to the Charlotte Independence at City Stadium last Saturday night to extend their winless streak to 10 games.

  • Richmond outshot the Independence 24-9 for the game, and 7-2 in shots on goal, but Charlotte goalkeeper Cody Mizell’s standout performance saw the visitors claim victory.

  • Richmond now sits eight points out of a place in the USL Cup Playoffs as it enters the final game of its first half of the season.

  • U.S. U17 international Chris Durkin will be unavailable for the contest as he serves a suspension for caution accumulation. Durkin leads the Kickers with a rate of 50.6 passes/90 minutes.
