Real Monarchs SLC news and notes

  • Current record: 10-1-0, 30pts

  • The Monarchs recorded their seventh consecutive victory with a 1-0 win against Orange County SC last Saturday at Orange County Great Park.

  • Chandler Hoffman scored his seventh goal of the season in the opening minute of the game, and Connor Sparrow’s six-save shutout allowed it to stand as the winner as the Monarchs moved top of the Western Conference.

  • Sparrow’s performance, which included a penalty kick save late in the first half, earned the goalkeeper a place on the USL Team of the Week on Tuesday.

  • With a win, the Monarchs would equal the eight-game winning streak achieved by Orlando City SC in the 2014 USL regular season.

Portland Timbers 2 news and notes

  • Portland fell 1-0 to Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 last Sunday afternoon at Providence Park, keeping the side at the bottom of the Western Conference.

  • T2 is now winless in its last six outings, with the club’s only win of the season coming on April 22 against Sacramento Republic FC.

  • Portland midfielder Andre Lewis (743) and defender Lamar Batista (620) are both among the top 10 players in the league for attempted passes this season, with Batista available again on Saturday after serving a one-game suspension for caution accumulation.

  • T2’s Villyan Bijev is tied for sixth in the USL with 22 shots this season, and leads the team with three goals and 14 chances created.
