TAMPA, Fla. – San Antonio FC’s A.J. Ajeakwa finish that concluded an outstanding counterattack has been voted the USL Fans’ Choice Goal of the Month for May of the 2017 season. Ajeakwa’s second goal since his offseason arrival in the Alamo City helped SAFC maintain its undefeated start through the month of May.
A former player for Orange County SC, Ajeakwa opened his SAFC account on the road in a 3-2 victory against Seattle Sounders FC 2 on April 25. A little less than a month later, he provided the winner in a 1-0 win against Phoenix Rising FC. A move that began on the left near the halfway line saw Billy Forbes bring the ball infield, and his pass released Kris Tyrpak down the right side. Tyrpak cut the ball back to the center of the penalty area, where Ajeakwa had positioned himself perfectly to fire home.
Ajeakwa’s goal received 38 percent of the poll conducted online at USLSoccer.com that concluded on Monday morning. Ottawa Fury FC’s Sito Seoane finished second with 22 percent for his long-range finish against the New York Red Bulls II, while Phoenix Rising FC’s Shaun Wright-Phillips finished third with 14 percent for his late game-winner against OKC Energy FC.
