PITTSBURGH – Orlando City B responded well from a first-half deficit, posting a 2-1 road victory against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds on Saturday at Highmark Stadium. Hadji Barry tallied an equalizer and set up a well-driven goal by Zach Ellis-Hayden early in the second half. The rally was a strong response following Corey Hertzog’s 30th-minute tally for Pittsburgh. Earl Edwards Jr. also had a couple strong saves for OCB to hang on for the victory. Orlando rebounded from its previous game, a 3-1 home loss to the Charlotte Independence. OCB improves to 4-4-3 (15 points) overall and 3-2-1 on the road. Pittsburgh falls to 4-5-3 (15 points) overall and 2-4-1 at home.

Scoring:
30’ – PGH – Corey Hertzog
42’ – ORL – Hadji Barry
53’ – ORL – Zach Ellis-Hayden (Hadji Barry)

Three Things That Mattered:

  • 1. Orlando recovered from a first-half deficit – once with a fairly fortunate tally and once with a beautifully crafted setup on either side of halftime. Hadji Barry found the equalizer as the Riverhounds could not clear the ball out of harm’s way in the 42nd minute. Barry took advantage with the close-range strike to tie it up at 1-1 heading into halftime. Then in the 53rd minute, Orlando had a nice buildup down the right side and Barry was involved once again with a drop-off to Zach Ellis-Hayden. Ellis-Hayden targeted the left side of the frame from 16 yards out, finding the upper corner of the goal for a 2-1 advantage.

  • 2. The one constant for Pittsburgh has been Corey Hertzog. He added to his strong scoring output with his sixth of the campaign to give the Riverhounds the 1-0 lead in the 30th minute. Hertzog provided a blast from the left side of the box, and at that point it looked like Pittsburgh could have a handle on the match. However, the Riverhounds have now gone winless in three straight after posting a three-game winning streak.

  • 3. Multiple-goal games have been difficult to come by for the Riverhounds since the first couple weeks of the season. Pittsburgh had several sequences that probably deserved another mark in the score sheet. The Riverhounds generated a solid two-minute stretch midway through the first half in which the club would have wanted something to show for its efforts. It all started in the 26th minute with Jamal Jack providing a beautiful deep pass from the back to lead Ritchie Duffie. Duffie was hesitant with his run, however, and his window closed up quickly when he shot toward the near right post. Orlando’s Zach Carroll made a strong run back to deflect the ball out of bounds for a corner kick. On the subsequent corner, Hertzog’s top-shelf header was saved by OCB goalkeeper Earl Edwards Jr. The second corner led to a Romeo Parkes shot attempt that went high and wide right, as the Riverhounds’ three-shot stretch went all for naught.
