SAFC Extends Unbeaten Streak to 11 After 1-0 Win

San Antonio FC beat Swope Park Rangers 1-0 at Swope Soccer Village on Friday night to remain undefeated so far this season and equal the longest single-season road winning streak in USL history, recording five straight road wins. A goal from Mark O’Ojong was enough to earn the Alamo City club three points on the road.

“I couldn’t be more proud of our guys,” SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell said. “They had to work extremely hard tonight and earn everything they got. I thought the goal we got was good and it came at the right time, and the players did a tremendous job holding on to the lead tonight.”

The lone goal of the match came in the 53rd minute when an SAFC counterattack found mid-fielder Kris Tyrpak out on the wing. Tyrpak then found midfielder Mark O’Ojong on the far-post with a high cross, which O’Ojong buried past SPR goalkeeper Zendejas for the 1-0 lead.

The goal marks O’Ojong’s first for the Alamo City club since joining the Silver and Black in April. Kris Tyrpak also recorded his second assist of the season in as many matches to set up the visitors’ goal against his former club.

San Antonio FC goalkeeper Diego Restrepo recorded his fifth consecutive clean sheet of the season, recording three saves to remain at the top of the USL in shutouts. Restrepo has not conceded a goal since his first appearance for the club on April 22.

The match marks the first San Antonio FC win over Swope Park Rangers after the club recorded one draw and two losses against SPR in 2016. SAFC also handed SPR their first loss at home since September 3, 2016.

San Antonio FC will return to action as it hosts Swope Park Rangers at Toyota Field on Saturday, June 3 in the second of two back-to-back matches between the two clubs.
