Kickers aim for second victory against City Islanders this season

RICHMOND, Va. – The Richmond Kickers will try to claim their second victory this season against the Harrisburg City Islanders when the two teams meet at City Stadium on Saturday night. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET.

Richmond Kickers news and notes

  • Current record: 2-4-1, 7pts

  • The Kickers earned a 1-1 draw with FC Cincinnati last Saturday night at City Stadium as they were unable to hold an early lead on home turf.

  • Fred Owusu Sekyere scored his second goal of the season in the contest for Richmond, but Jimmy McLaughlin’s equalizer with 20 minutes to go left honors even.

  • The Kickers will honor former player Matthew Delicate at Saturday’s game, with the longtime Richmond standout having announced his retirement from professional soccer this offseason.

  • Delicate recorded more than 100 goals in his professional career, and was a USL All-League First Team selection for the final time in 2014.

Harrisburg City Islanders news and notes

  • Current record: 2-3-1, 7pts

  • The City Islanders fell 3-1 to the New York Red Bulls II last Saturday at MSU Soccer Park for their second consecutive defeat.

  • Aaron Wheeler scored his second goal of the season late in the first half to pull Harrisburg level, but the Red Bulls II scored twice in the second half to take victory.

  • Harrisburg has scored six goals in six games this season, all of which have come from within the penalty area.

  • The City Islanders will head to face the PDL’s Ocean City Nor’easters next Wednesday night in the Second Round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
