Two top teams in the East meet for the first time

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Tampa Bay Rowdies and Charleston Battery will meet for the first time at Al Lang Stadium on Saturday night with both sitting in the top four of the Eastern Conference standings entering the contest. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.

Tampa Bay Rowdies news and notes

  • Current record: 3-1-1, 10pts

  • The Rowdies return to Al Lang Stadium after earning one point from a tough two-game road trip that saw the side visit Louisville and Cincinnati.

  • Tampa Bay rebounded from its first loss of the season last Saturday in Louisville by earning a 1-1 draw against FC Cincinnati on Wednesday night in front of 15,227 fans at Nippert Stadium.

  • Marcel Schäfer scored a memorable first goal for the Rowdies to give the side an early lead, with his long-range strike coming in at No. 2 on the ESPN SportsCenter Top 10 on Wednesday night.

  • The Rowdies have won all three of their home games so far this season, defeating Ottawa Fury FC 1-0 in their last home outing on April 8.

Charleston Battery news and notes

  • Current record: 3-1-0, 9pts

  • The Battery rebounded from their first loss of the season last Saturday night with a convincing 5-0 win against the Rochester Rhinos at MUSC Health Stadium.

  • Romario Williams scored three times in 12 minutes in the first half in the victory, and is now tied for second in the USL with four goals this season.

  • Charleston’s Ataulla Guerra has scored in each of the Battery’s past two games. The Trinidad & Tobago international has also put five of his six shots this season on target, and created three scoring chances.

  • O’Brian Woodbine made a strong return to the lineup after missing the first three games of the season with suspension as he recorded an assist and made five interceptions defensively in his 61 minutes of action.
