San Antonio faces Reno looking to continue undefeated start

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio FC and Reno 1868 FC will square off for the first time on Saturday night at Toyota Field with the hosts looking to end a three-game home stand undefeated and 1868 FC looking for its first win in club history. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. CT.

  • Current record: 2-0-1, 7pts

  • San Antonio FC saw its two-game winning streak end last Friday night as it played to a 1-1 draw with Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC in front of 6,217 fans at Toyota Field.

  • A highlight-reel finish by Kris Tyrpak brought the hosts level with 11 minutes to go after the Switchbacks had taken a first-half lead through Aaron King.

  • The contest saw the professional debut of 18-year-old San Antonio native Devin Vega, who joined the club this preseason from the FC Dallas Academy to begin his career.

  • SAFC has recorded five goals in its opening three games of the season, but is doing so at a shot conversion rate of 31 percent, which leads the USL.

Reno 1868 FC news and notes

  • Current record: 0-2-1, 1pt

  • Reno fell for a second time this season in its last outing as Real Monarchs SLC recorded a 5-3 victory at Rio Tinto Stadium.

  • 1868 FC rallied late after trailing 4-1 at halftime with Dane Kelly’s first two goals of the season coming in the final 10 minutes, but the Monarchs iced the game with their fifth in stoppage time.

  • Kelly’s two goals made the Jamaican forward the first player in USL history to record 50 regular-season goals.

  • Reno returns home to Greater Nevada Field next Saturday night to play host to Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC.
