Independence aim for first win as Riverhounds visit Eagle Field

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte Independence will look for their first win of the season when they play host to a Pittsburgh Riverhounds side looking to bounce-back from a midweek defeat when the two teams meet at Eagle Field. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET.

Charlotte Independence news and notes

  • Current record: 0-1-1, 1pt

  • The Independence earned a 1-1 draw against Orlando City B last Saturday night to earn its first point of the season as Lewis Hilton scored the club’s first goal of the season.

  • Charlotte announced it had signed forward Jaime Siaj earlier this week, with the Colorado Rapids 2017 MLS SuperDraft selection returning to the city where he had shone for the PDL’s Charlotte Eagles last summer.

  • Goalkeeper Cody Mizell has recorded six saves over the opening two games of the season, posting a .667 save percentage.

  • Charlotte has averaged 571 passes over its first two game, and has an 81.6 percent success rate which puts the side third in the league overall.

Pittsburgh Riverhounds news and notes

  • Current record: 1-2-1, 4pts

  • The Riverhounds are coming off a 2-1 defeat against Eastern Conference leaders Saint Louis FC on Wednesday night at Highmark Stadium.

  • Kay Banjo scored his first professional goal to give Pittsburgh an early lead, but goals by former Riverhounds Jose Angulo and forward Christian Volesky earned the visitors a third consecutive win.

  • The Riverhounds missed out on the chance to record back-to-back wins for the first time since 2015 with the loss, having found success in their first trip to the Carolinas this season in a 2-1 win against Charleston last Saturday.

  • Corey Hertzog is tied for the league-lead with three goals this season, while midfielder Kevin Kerr is third in the USL with 10 chances created.
