Rowdies, Fury FC renew rivalry in first USL meeting

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Tampa Bay Rowdies and Ottawa Fury FC meet for the first time as members of the USL on Saturday night at Al Lang Stadium with the Rowdies looking to complete a perfect three-game home stand to start the season. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.

Tampa Bay Rowdies news and notes

  • Current record: 2-0-0, 6pts

  • The Rowdies earned back-to-back victories to start the season with a 4-0 win against Toronto FC II last Saturday night at Al Lang Stadium.

  • Michael Nanchoff recorded two assists, while Damion Lowe and Deshorn Brown both scored their first goals for the club in the victory.

  • Georgi Hristov recorded his second goal in as many games for the Rowdies to start the season, while Joe Cole also found the net for his 10th regular season goal in Tampa Bay.

  • Tampa Bay has been one of the better possession teams in the league over its first two games, and sits second in the USL with an 82 percent pass completion rate.

Ottawa Fury FC news and notes

  • Fury FC will look to rebound from a 3-2 defeat to Saint Louis FC last Saturday night that saw an own goal by Sergio Manesio with three minutes to go sink its hopes of taking something from the club’s first game in the USL.

  • Ottawa had rallied from an early two-goal deficit in front of a capacity crowd of 5,566 at Toyota Stadium – Saint Louis, with Eddie Edward and Onua Obasi both finding the net to level the score for the visitors.

  • The goal was Edward’s first for Fury FC, with the Canadian international having joined the club midway through the 2016 season.

  • Ottawa recorded only a 37 percent possession rate against Saint Louis, completing 176 of 266 passes in the contest.
