Energy FC hosts Toros for home opener with each looking for first win

OKLAHOMA CITY – OKC Energy FC hosts its home opener at Taft Stadium on Saturday night with Rio Grande Valley FC the visitors as both clubs look for their first victory of the new season. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT.

OKC Energy FC news and notes

  • Current record: 0-1-1, 1pt

  • Energy FC recorded its first point of the new season last Saturday when it earned a 1-1 draw with Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC at Weidner Field.

  • Alex Dixon scored his first goal for Energy FC to earn his side a draw after the Switchbacks had taken the lead through Masta Kacher.

  • Energy FC this week announced partnerships with local youth organizations Blitz United, Canadian Valley Football Club, and Oklahoma Football Club as initial members in the establishment of Oklahoma Energy FC.

  • OKC will have Jose Barril available to return to the lineup after the midfielder served a one-game suspension for a red card against the Swope Park Rangers in Week 1.

Rio Grande Valley FC news and notes

  • Current record: 0-2-0, 0pts

  • The Toros are still looking for their first points of the season after 1-0 defeat on the road against Tulsa Roughnecks FC at ONEOK Field last Saturday.

  • RGVFC has also yet to find the net in either of its two games despite holding a 12-4 advantage in shots on goal on its opponents so far this season.

  • The Toros have are tied for eighth in the USL with 31 total shots over their first two games of the season.

  • Rio Grande Valley FC returns home to H-E-B Park on Wednesday night when it plays host to Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC.

  • The Toros claimed the regular-season series between the clubs with a 1-0-2 record a season ago, but OKC rallied for a dramatic 3-2 victory in the Western Conference Quarterfinals of the 2016 USL Cup Playoffs for its first win in the all-time series.
