PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Riverhounds got goals from Kevin Kerr and Corey Hertzog as they powered their way to a 3-1 preseason victory against the University of Pittsburgh on a chilly Saturday afternoon at Ambrose Urbanic Field.

Hertzog’s third goal of the preseason proved the game-winner in the 64th minute, while Kay Banjo added an insurance tally with four minutes to go for his first career goal as a Hound. Kerr had given the Riverhounds the lead on the half-hour mark, only for Pitt’s Colin Brezniak to send the game to halftime level three  minutes later.

Kerr opened up the scoring with a rocket of a shot from 16 yards out off a nice feed by John Manga. Receiving Manga’s pass with his back turned to goal, Kerr switched immediately to face goal and beat Panthers goalkeeper Mikal Outcalt with a shot that caromed in off the underside of the crossbar.

Pitt quickly responded as midfielder Marcony Pimentel made a solid run up the middle of the pitch, and eventually found Brezniak in the penalty area for the finish.

The Riverhounds regained the lead moments after their Head Coach Dave Brandt made major changes to the lineup just past the hour-mark. Columbus Crew SC loanee Marshall Hollingsworth bulled his way into the penalty area, forcing Outcalt to make a tough save in close. The Pitt goalkeeper was unable to corral the rebound, though, and Hertzog was in the right place to cash in for the lead.

Hertzog – a 2016 USL All-League Second Team selection – factored in on Banjo’s late goal as well, as he set up the former PDL standout with a useful through-ball deep into the penalty area. Banjo, jockeying to win position, made quick work of the pass to give the Hounds a two-goal lead.

The Riverhounds also saw a sixth preseason trialist see action, as defender Gale Agbossoumonde came on in the second-half wave of substitutes, playing center back alongside Tobi Adewole. A former U.S. Youth internatinoal Agbossoumonde previously played with current Riverhound Hertzog for the Tampa Bay Rowdies two seasons ago.
