CLEARWATER, Fla. – The 2017 Suncoast Invitational continues on Wednesday night at the Joe DiMaggio Sports Complex as the USL’s Saint Louis FC joins the event to meet D.C. United, and the Montreal Impact and Philadelphia Union both look to build on victories in Saturday’s contests.

Saint Louis FC makes the trip from IMG Academy, where the club is currently in preseason, to face D.C. with a large contingent of new faces on the roster for the new season. At the forefront is Preki, the club’s new Head Coach, who alongside GM Jeremy Alumbaugh has overseen numerous changes as the club looks to reach the postseason for the first time. Among the new arrivals are goalkeeper Devala  Gorrick, formerly of Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC, and 2013 USL Most Valuable Player Jose Angulo, while players such as Ivan Mirkovic, Konrad Plewa and Sebastian Dalgaard bring plenty of USL experience with them.

D.C. will be aiming to bounce back from a 4-2 defeat to the Montreal Impact on Saturday that saw Steven Birnbaum and Patrick Nyarko find the back of the net. United saw much of its roster see action, including new Homegrown signing Ian Harkes and young standout Chris Durkin, both of whom came on as second-half substitutes, but wasn’t completely at full strength with goalkeeper Bill Hamid still sidelined with a knee injury that saw him depart this January’s U.S. National Team training camp early.

Player to Watch: Devala Gorrick, Saint Louis FC
A USL All-League Second Team selection a year ago, Gorrick joined STLFC this offseason in one of the early moves made in the club’s rebuilding efforts. The 29-year-old surpassed 50 total appearances for the Switchbacks in his two seasons with the club, and will try to replicate his standout form of 2016 that saw him sport a 0.84 goals-against average and .781 save percentage with his new club this season.

Montreal Impact vs. Philadelphia Union
Kickoff:

The Montreal Impact and Philadelphia Union both took victory this past Saturday night, with the Impact looking impressive offensively in a 4-2 win against D.C. United that saw the side rebound strongly from defeat to the Chicago Fire in their previous outing. Dominic Oduro’s early goal was followed by a penalty kick by Ignacio Piatti and a second-half finish for Matteo Mancuso, while last season’s leading scorer for FC Montreal in the USL – Anthony Jackson-Hamel – added an insurance goal late on to seal the victory.

The Union weren’t quite as high-flying in their preseason opener, but took a 1-0 win against the Tampa Bay Rowdies as Homegrown midfielder Derrick Jones scored the only goal. Jones, who began the 2016 season with Bethlehem Steel FC in the USL before signing a Homegrown contract with the Union in midseason, was joined in the midfield by new Union signing Haris Medunjanin, who shone in his first performance for the side, while others who have seen time with Steel FC such as Fabian Herbers and Academy prospect Anthony Fontana also saw action.

Player to Watch: Richie Marquez, Philadelphia Union
Marquez, who played every minute for the Harrisburg City Islanders in 2014 on loan from the Union to help launch his career, has become a consistent presence in the center of the club’s defense, but will be tested by an Impact attack that has impressive speed and craftiness. Marquez and the rest of the Union’s back line will be well-tested on Wednesday as they gear up for the new MLS season.
