One of the historic names in Brazilian soccer, which brought its success at the state level to the national and international level in the modern era, SC Corinthians Paulista arrives at the 2017 Florida Cup to begin preparations for both an assault on a seventh national league championship for the side, and also to compete for the Copa Sudamericana.

Founded in 1910 by a group of railway workers, bucking the trend of the time and earning the club the nickname of Time do Povo – the People’s Club – Corinthians has grown into one of the most recognizable names in world soccer. The home of players like Brazilian legends Roberto Rivelino and Socrates, the club found regular success in the Campeonato Paulista from the club’s inception, earning the title 27 times.
Success on the national level didn’t arrive until the 1990s, however, with the club’s first Campeonato Brasileiro Série A arriving in 1990, and its first Copo Do Brasil in 1995. Since then, however, the side has regularly claimed silverware at the national and international level, including the FIFA Club World Cup on two occasions, a 1-0 win against UEFA Champions League winner Chelsea in 2012 being the more recent of the two.

The Brazilian forward returned to the club he grew up with last November after travels overseas that saw him compete for CSKA Moscow, Manchester City and Everton, and he could see his first action since his return in Florida. The 29-year-old scored 17 goals in 81 appearances for Corinthians in his first stint with the club, and will be hoping to add to those figures this year in leading the side to success.
