RICHMOND, Va. – The Richmond Kickers announced on Tuesday the club had agreed to terms for the 2017 season with midfielder Samuel Asante, pending league and federation approval.

“We are delighted to re-sign Asante,” said Leigh Cowlishaw, Richmond Kickers Director of Soccer. “He is coming off one of his best seasons of his career and we expect another quality contribution in 2017.”

Over the past three seasons, Asante has made 83 appearances in a Kickers uniform, amassing over 6,200 minutes. Adding three goals and five assists, he has also contributed to more than 30 shutouts since 2014, leading the club to the USL Cup Playoffs during each campaign.

A native of Sunyani, Ghana, Asante spent the 2013 season with the Charlotte Eagles. Making 21 appearances, he posted one assist during the regular season before tallying his first professional goal during the USL Cup Playoffs quarterfinal victory against the Harrisburg City Islanders, which set the Eagles on the way to the 2013 USL Cup Final.

Prior to signing with the Eagles, Asante had stints with the PDL’s Des Moines Menace and Rochester Thunder and made 60 appearances at Lindsey Wilson College. Named to the Mid-South All-Conference and Mid-South Conference All-Academic teams, he led Lindsey Wilson to two NAIA National Championships.
