WILMINGTON, N.C. – Wilmington Hammerheads FC announced on Wednesday the transfer of midfielder Mael Corboz to German club MSV Duisburg.

The 21 -year-old joins the Zebras after leading the Hammerheads with four assists in 14 appearances this season. The midfielder had already participated in Duisburg’s summer training camp and was already in action for the Zebras at the summer cup “Schauinsland Reisen- Cup der Traditionen”.

“I am very happy that it has worked with the agreement,” said Corboz. “The boys welcomed me very well in the team, in which I have already trained during my stay here. I joined a well-functioning team, which makes it, of course, easier for me to fit in. Now I am looking forward to playing, the fans and the MSV-Arena.”

“We are very happy for Mael,” said Hammerheads General Manager Jason Arnold. “He had a goal to play in Europe and we are glad that we could help him reach this goal. Mael is a pro on and off the field, and we will be hearing about his successes for many years to come. We thank Mael for all of his contributions to the Hammerheads and wish him all the best in Germany.”

Duisburg currently sits top of Germany’s 3.Liga five games into the season with three wins and two draws to start the season. A former standout at the University of Maryland, Corboz will aim to help the side continue its success throughout the upcoming season.

“[Mael] has evolved with us from the start very well and very quickly” said Duisburg Sports Director Ivo Grlic. “He will still need some time, but if his development continues at this rate, he will strengthen the team.”
