ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Eastern Conference-leading Louisville City FC garnered an early finish and maintained some strong possession during a 1-0 victory against the Rochester Rhinos on Saturday at Rhinos Stadium. Andrew Lubahn’s 28th-minute tally was the difference, and it also ended Rochester’s 24-game home unbeaten streak. The 20-0-4 run at Rhinos Stadium, which included the postseason run en route to a 2015 USL Championship crown, came to a close against a Louisville side that is now on a 12-game unbeaten streak overall this year (8-0-4). City improves to 7-0-2 on the road and 9-1-4 overall (31 points). The Rhinos fall to 5-4-3 (18 points) and 3-1-2 at home.

Scoring:
28’ – LOU – Andrew Lubahn (Niall McCabe)

Three Things That Mattered:

  • 1. Rochester’s defense in the recent past was prone to make very few mistakes. How else do you achieve a USL record-low 15 regular-season goals conceded just one year ago? Unfortunately for the Rhinos, a giveaway on its half of the field led to Louisville’s first goal in the 28th minute as City then strung together several quick passes up the middle. Niall McCabe provided the final dish to Andrew Lubahn who tucked a low shot inside the left post for a 1-0 lead. Lubahn notched his third goal of the season.

  • 2. Louisville’s goal was just its second tally ever against Rochester, and first since April 16, 2015. It was a welcome moment for a visiting side that was looking for a payback moment after losing 1-0 to the Rhinos during the 2015 USL Eastern Conference Final. Between regular-season play and postseason play, Lubahn’s goal ended a 264-minute goal-less drought against Rochester.

  • 3. The Rhinos attempted some long crosses and lofted passes over Louisville’s defense, and earned some set-piece opportunities to try and find a goal, but City stayed strong until the end. Rhinos supporters thought Kenardo Forbes broke through in the 82nd minute, but offside was ruled on the play when he hit the back of the net. It marked the fourth time this season that Rochester’s offense has been shut out. The Rhinos on the defensive end have now conceded 12 goals this season, which still ranks as the second-fewest among the Eastern Conference field, but is only three behind the total conceded during the entire 2015 regular season.
