FENTON, Mo. – Following up a five-goal effort the first time around against Tulsa Roughnecks FC could have been a tall order for Saint Louis FC, but the host side provided a more-than-fitting encore. STLFC’s Seth Rudolph and Irvin Herrera each recorded a brace during a dominant 7-1 victory against Tulsa on Saturday in front of a near-capacity crowd at World Wide Technology Soccer Park. The seven-goal performance ranks as the second-most goals in USL history, one shy of the record. For Roberts, it was his first start and the first two goals of his account. Jamiel Hardware added a first-half tally and Jordan Roberts netted a second-half goal. Saint Louis maintained its unbeaten record at home, improving to 2-0-3. The side is now 5-4-4 overall (19 points). Saint Louis has outscored Tulsa 12-3 this season. Tulsa has now dropped four consecutive games and moves to 2-9-1 (7 points).

Scoring:
4’ – STL – Seth Rudolph (Irvin Herrera)
17’ – STL – Irvin Herrera (James Musa)
38’ – STL – Jamiel Hardware (Irvin Herrera)
50’ – STL – Seth Rudolph (James Musa)
52’ – STL – Irvin Herrera (Richard Dixon)
76’ – STL – Jordan Roberts (Takada)
78’ – STL – Vince Cicciarelli (Jamiel Hardware)
85’ – TUL – Jasson Ramos Carpio (Adriano Pellegrino)

Three Things That Mattered:

  • 1. Saint Louis was knocking on the door for a USL-record performance Saturday night. The seven goals rank second behind former USL side VSI Tampa Bay, which recorded an 8-0 victory against Antigua Barracuda on June 7, 2013.

  • 2. Seth Rudolph had a first start that he should remember for quite some time. Rudolph opened his scoring account with a deft right-footed redirect off of an Irvin Herrera cross from the left in just the fourth minute to take a 1-0 lead. Then Rudolph came through in the 50th minute with a laser shot into the upper left corner. James Musa dished to Rudolph and had a gap within Tulsa’s defense to work with.

  • 3. Herrera has been the rock for Saint Louis’ offense as he was involved in four goals against the Roughnecks. Herrera had a beautiful cutback to his right foot to gain a 2-0 lead in the 17th minute for what proved to be the winner. Herrera also was left unattended by Tulsa’s defense in the 52nd minute to record the brace, to go along with his two assists. Herrera now has eight goals on the season as he and STLFC took full advantage of a Roughnecks side that had no organization on the defensive side of the field.
