CARSON, Calif. – Jack McBean netted his USL-leading 10th and 11th goals of the season and 19-year-old Ryo Fujii tallied two goals as the LA Galaxy II defeated Arizona United SC soundly, posting a 4-1 victory on Saturday at StubHub Track & Field Stadium. McBean also set up Fujii’s first goal and built a three-goal cushion heading into halftime. The Galaxy II improve to 5-2-5 (20 points), one point behind Western Conference-leading Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2. Arizona falls to 2-5-3 (9 points).

Scoring:
20’ – LA – Ryo Fujii (Jack McBean)
23’ – LA – Jack McBean
33’ – LA – Ryo Fujii (Jose Villarreal)
75’ – AZ – Long Tan (penalty)
85’ – LA – Jack McBean (Jaime Villarreal)

Three Things That Mattered:

  • 1. Ryjo Fujii notched one of the strongest goals of the weekend with a 33rd-minute blast from nearly 30 yards out that hit the corner of the frame and pushed LA’s lead to 3-0. Earlier, Fujii cut to his right for his first goal of the season in the 20th minute, finding the upper right of the frame for a 1-0 lead.

  • 2. As has been the story for much of the season, Jack McBean’s calm and precision-focused demeanor set the tone. McBean first set up the Fujii tally with his dish that split about three Arizona defenders. Then McBean took a free kick from just above the 18-yard box that eluded a massive seven-man Arizona wall and snuck past United goalkeeper Carl Woszczynski inside the right post for a two-goal cushion in the 23rd minute. The cherry on top was McBean’s redirect of a second-half free kick in the 85th minute.

  • 3. Though in a losing effort, Arizona surely had to be pleased that striker Long Tan finally tallied his first goal of the season. The USL veteran, who notched 14 goals a season ago, found the score sheet when he converted a second-half penalty kick.
