CHARLESTON, S.C. – Through the steady rain and difficult playing conditions, visiting Eastern Conference leader Louisville City FC was the dominant side en route to a 2-0 victory against the Charleston Battery on Saturday at MUSC Health Stadium. Charleston’s loss ends the team’s 29-game home unbeaten streak – the longest in the USL – which lasted for more than two years. Kyle Smith tallied a goal and assisted George Davis IV for Louisville. With the win, Louisville improves to 7-1-3 (24 points) while Charleston drops to 5-3-3 (18 points). The Battery saw their three-game winning streak also come to a close. Louisville is in the midst of a nine-game unbeaten streak (6-0-3).

Scoring:
19’ – LOU – George Davis IV (Kyle Smith)
38’ – LOU – Kyle Smith

Three Things That Mattered:

  • 1. Kyle Smith got things started with a deep cross from the right corner to spot George Davis IV approaching from the top of the 18. He slotted his shot into the left of the goal, clipping the left post past Charleston goalkeeper Odisnel Cooper for a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute. Smith then scored a goal of his own in the 38th minute, finding the upper right corner following a bouncing sequence that Charleston could not clear.

  • 2. Charleston’s Romario Williams was sent off in the 51st minute with a two-footed sliding tackle and the Battery never had an opportunity to try and whittle away at Louisville’s lead.

  • 3. The Battery’s 29-game home unbeaten run featured 19 wins and 10 draws. That run included last year’s postseason win against the Richmond Kickers. The previous home loss was a 1-0 defeat to Wilmington Hammerheads FC on May 10, 2014.
