TUKWILA, Wash. – The LA Galaxy II played shorthanded for more than 60 minutes, but Dave Romney finished a set-piece opportunity for an equalizer as Los Dos played Seattle Sounders FC 2 to a 1-1 draw on Sunday at Starfire Stadium. S2’s Mark O’Ojong scored just before halftime to take advantage of the man advantage as LA’s Alejandro Covarrubias was issued two first-half yellow cards and sent off. The Galaxy II move to 4-2-5 (17 points) and Seattle is now 1-5-4 (7 points). Sunday’s match truly came down to the final whistle as LA goalkeeper Clement Diop made a vital diving save to his left to turn away Seattle’s Jordan Schweitzer deep into second-half stoppage time to split the points.

Scoring:
43’ – SEA – Mark O’Ojong (Myron Samuel)
81’ – LA – Dave Romney (Ethan Zubak)

Three Things That Mattered:

  • 1. The crucial turning point of the match came in the 29th minute when LA’s Alejandro Covarrubias was issued his second yellow card and subsequently sent off. His two cautions came in a span of seven minutes as the Galaxy II played the remaining hour with 10 men. Defender Oscar Sorto was brought in for Jose Villarreal in the 34th minute as a tactical adjustment by Galaxy II Head Coach Curt Onalfo.

  • 2. Seattle stayed patient and struck in the 43rd minute. Myron Samuel received the ball toward the right corner and surveyed his oncoming teammates, spotting Mark O’Ojong just above the 18-yard box. O’Ojong fired to the upper right corner for his first goal of the season to take a one-goal lead into halftime.

  • 3. Despite playing down a man, the momentum certainly shifted for Los Dos in the second half, and they capitalized on a set-piece opportunity in the 81rst minute. LA’s corner kick from the left side was driven toward Ethan Zubak, who headed back across to Dave Romney in the middle. His right-footed shot found enough life past S2 goalkeeper Tyler Miller to tie the score at 1-1.

USLSoccer.com Man of the Match:
Clement Diop, LA Galaxy II - Diop and the Galaxy II defense were put to the test playing with only 10 men. He made four saves -- all in the second half -- and his biggest came in stoppage time to turn away a well-struck Jordan Schweitzer shot and grab a road point.
