MONTREAL – Junior Flemmings scored a 90th-minute, game-winning header as the New York Red Bulls II topped FC Montreal 1-0 on Saturday at Complexe Sportif Claude-Robillard. It was Montreal’s first game at the newly refurbished stadium this season after opening the year with two games at Stade Olympique. With the victory, New York improves to 4-0-0 on the road and 5-1-3 (18 points) overall. The Red Bulls II have outscored their opponents 7-1 on the road this season. FC Montreal falls to 0-8-0 overall and 0-3-0 at home.

Scoring:
90’ – NY – Junior Flemmings (Stefano Bonomo)

Three Things That Mattered:

  • 1. NYRB II was the stronger side overall Saturday, and the final touch had eluded New York until the 90th minute. With heavy pressure down the stretch, Stefano Bonomo crossed the ball in from the right and Flemmings headed it back across toward the far right post for the winner and his second tally of the season.

  • 2. FC Montreal’s Alessandro Riggi was a 79th-minute sub and he saw his impressive goal-scoring streak against New York come to a close. Riggi scored four goals in three games against the Red Bulls II during the 2015 season, scoring at least once per game. Riggi did create a dangerous scoring chance for Montreal in the 85th minute, but NYRB II defender Tyler Adams broke up the cross.

  • 3. Montreal goalkeeper Eric Kronberg made his first appearance for the side this year after manning the net twice last year. Kronberg had a clutch 28th-minute save as NYRB II’s Derrick Etienne briefly found himself one-on-one. Etienne tried to shoot low toward the right of the frame, but Kronberg left his line to cut the angle and keep the match scoreless. Kronberg was aggressive, even stepping up to attempt a header against NYRB II’s Stefano Bonomo in the 54th minute in what wound up being a should-to-shoulder hit that resulted in a caution toward Bonomo.
