LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Louisville City FC scored twice in the final 15 minutes to earn victory in the first Kings’ Cup clash of the season in front of 7,859 fans at Slugger Field on Saturday night. Both teams had chances in the contest before George Davis IV scored his first goal for Louisville with 13 minutes to go, capping a good quick passing move that saw him played in by Paolo DelPiccolo for a curling finish to the right corner from the left side of the penalty area. The hosts then wrapped up victory with a minute to go when Cameron Lancaster converted from the penalty spot after he had been brought down in the area.

Scoring:
77’ – LOU – George Davis IV (Paolo DelPiccolo)
89’ – LOU – Cameron Lancaster (PK)

Three Things That Matter:

  • 1. Louisville will be happy to take three points against its rival, and maintain its lead at the top of the Eastern Conference standings as it came through late in front of its biggest home crowd of the season so far with a solid performance. A third consecutive shutout for goalkeeper Greg Ranjitsingh will also be pleasing for Coach James O’Connor, as his side appears to have regained the defensive solidity that was key to their success last season.

  • 2. George Davis IV hadn’t had many opportunities to make an impact this season with only 279 minutes of action in the club’s first eight games, but given the chance to start on Saturday he made the most of it. The three-time All-League selection was a positive influence for much of the game, and his goal was an absolute gem that left Saint Louis’ Mark Pais with little chance.

  • 3. The defeat saw Saint Louis’ five-game undefeated streak come to an end, but there are still positives to take from the performance. As you’d expect, Coach Dale Schilly’s side never stopped working to get back into the game, but just couldn’t get things to fall its way in the final third as it battled hard in front of strong travelling support.
