TUKWILA, Wash. – Seattle Sounders FC 2 was within seconds of posting a victory, but OKC Energy FC fought to the bitter end. Jordan Rideout’s rebound in the fifth minute of second-half stoppage time helped OKC earn a 1-1 draw against S2 on Sunday at Starfire Stadium.

Victor Mansaray’s first-half goal for Seattle had been the difference for much of the match, but in the closing seconds, OKC pressured the goal as Danni Konig’s initial shot popped away from Seattle goalkeeper Tyler Miller at the near left post. Rideout was there to pounce on the rebound as the elated Energy FC bench greeted the rest of the squad in celebration.

Energy FC moves to 1-1-2 (5 points) after playing in its first road match of the season. Seattle moves to 1-3-3 (6 points) and extends its unbeaten streak to four games (1-0-3) after opening the year with three consecutive shutout losses.

Sunday’s game began with some pace on both ends. OKC posted the first shot on goal in the seventh minute when Energy FC tried to take advantage of a giveaway by S2’s defense. Konig flicked to Coy Craft, who shot from the left side. Miller had it covered and batted the ball over the crossbar.

Then in the 19th minute, OKC right back Michael Thomas played a quick give-and-go with Craft, then shot right-footed toward the near right post as Miller batted the shot away.

Seattle, despite allowing a couple chances to OKC, countered with the game’s opening goal in the 20th minute. Following Energy FC’s corner kick, the ball was sent to Myron Samuel on the right, and he provided a dangerous through ball up the middle toward Mansaray who sprinted toward the goal. Energy FC goalkeeper Cody Laurendi committed off of his line early to try and intercept, but Mansaray won that battle with a right-footed tap to get around Laurendi. With OKC defender Cyprian Hedrick attempting to recover for his goalkeeper, Mansaray chipped the ball over a lunging Hedrick and into the left side of the net for a 1-0 lead. It was Mansaray’s second goal of the season.

OKC threatened for the majority of a 15-minute spell before halftime, posting multiple shots on frame to force Miller into several saves, including a stop against Sebastian Dalgaard who was OKC’s most dangerous threat throughout the opening half.

The game took a slow turn for both sides in the second half. It wasn’t until the 79th minute when either side threatened the net. S2 second-half sub Devon Fisher took a close-range shot and OKC’s Michael Harris made a key goal-line stop to maintain Energy FC’s one-goal deficit.

Seattle played the final 10 minutes down a man as Oniel Fisher was issued a second caution and was sent off in the 81st minute.

Konig nearly found the equalizer for OKC in the 87th minute with a close-range shot in traffic, but his attempt went over the crossbar.

Seattle looked to be headed to its second win of the season, but Rideout came through in the clutch for OKC to help the club salvage a point on its first road trip.
