EDINBURG, Texas – Coming off four consecutive draws, the LA Galaxy II appeared to right their ship on Saturday night as the side took its third win of the season with a 2-0 victory against Rio Grande Valley FC, spoiling the hosts’ inaugural home opener.

“It feels goods especially since the last few games we feel we've left some points on the table,” said defender Lee Nishanian. “But it was a big win, especially away from home. It was hot, tough conditions. But it was a good team win.”

As he has for much of the season, Los Dos captain Jack McBean led the way for the side as he recorded his sixth goal of the season. Ariel Lassiter also struck soon after to give the Galaxy II a 2-0 lead early in the second half, and from there the focus that had permeated the team’s practices since a 2-2 draw nine days ago against Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 took over.

“We worked on it all week in training,” said McBean. “At the end of training we did 11-v-11 and pretended like we're up a goal with 10-15 minutes left to go. We just really buckled down, worked hard, got in our shape and closed the game out.”

With Vancouver’s game against Saint Louis postponed due to lightning, the win allowed the Galaxy to return to the top of the Western Conference standings. Now undefeated in seven games to start the season, and with four points from two road games to open things up, the side is ready for a busy week ahead that sees it play both Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC and major rival Sacramento Republic FC.

“We've got a busy week coming up,” said McBean. “We're playing two really good teams that we know a little bit about from the past couple of years. They're good and the games are always competitive so we're looking forward to it and we're ready.”

After leading the USL in road wins a season ago, though, it definitely felt good to take home three points from a Toros side that, while an expansion team, had played very well in its last three contests.

“It feels really good to get our first road win of the year, especially in such a tough environment and tough place to play,” said McBean. “The weather was rough and windy. We had some things not go our way, so to get a 2-0 win and keep a clean sheet is very good.”
