SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio FC scored a pair of second-half goals to earn its first home victory, defeating Tulsa Roughnecks FC 3-1 on Saturday at Toyota Field in front of a boisterous crowd of 7,837. Shawn Chin scored in the opening half and Rafael Castillo and Jason Johnson found the back of the net in the second half.

Kaleemullah scored the lone goal for Tulsa in the second half.

San Antonio improved to 2-2-2 (8 points) and 1-0-1 at home. Tulsa fell to 1-4-1 (4 points) and 0-1-1 on the road.

Chin got things started off with a 38th-minute goal as San Antonio worked the ball up quickly during the sequence. From the right side of the box, Chin eluded his defender Matt Whatley and then found just enough space to sneak his shot past Tulsa goalkeeper Alex Mangels and into the right of the net for a 1-0 San Antonio lead.

The Roughnecks, who entered the match having been shut out in three consecutive matches, finally ended that drought when Kaleemullah scored in the 49th minute. Tulsa’s counter attack went through Sammy Ochoa down the left side. His beautiful left-footed cross through the six-yard area found Kaleemullah at the far right post and he redirected into the net to tie the score at 1-1. The goal ended a 319-minute scoring drought for the Roughnecks.

San Antonio nearly found the go-ahead goal in the 66th minute when Chin’s shot was turned away by the leg of Mangels, clipped the crossbar and went over.

SAFC kept up its attack and found the upper hand in the 68th minute, thanks to Castillo’s deep shot from outside the box. His left-footed strike toward the left of the frame was partially deflected by Mangels, but he didn’t get enough to redirect the ball as San Antonio took the 2-1 lead.

The icing on the cake came in the 88th minute when SAFC’s initial attack from Manolo Sanchez forced Mangels into a shot and a position off of his line. Johnson then found the ball just above the 18-yard box and he chipped the ball over Mangels and perfectly into the upper left corner for the 3-1 score line.
