SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sacramento Republic FC announced on Friday it will face Liverpool FC’s U21s in a pair of international exhibitions next month. The games will be held at Sacramento’s home, Bonney Field, on Saturday, May 21 at 7:30 p.m. PT, and Greater Nevada Field, home of 2017 USL expansion side Reno 1868 FC, on Wednesday, May 25 at 7 p.m. PT.

“These matches provide a massive opportunity for our fans to see the players currently coming through the ranks at Liverpool Football Club,” said Sacramento Republic FC Technical Director and Head Coach Paul Buckle. “There will be some serious talent on show in this next generation of players and they will prove a big test for us and this will also be another step in the right direction for our club.”

Liverpool’s U21 squad includes U.S. U18 international Brooks Lennon, who came through the academy system of Real Salt Lake before signing with the club last summer.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for our U21s to gain valuable experience competing against quality opposition in the USA,” said Liverpool FC Academy Director Alex Inglethorpe. “The tour will also provide players and staff with a wonderful opportunity to meet the many LFC supporters in the USA ahead of the First Team’s visit this summer.”

The game in Reno will be the first soccer game at Greater Nevada Field, ahead of June 11’s USL regular-season contest between Real Monarchs SLC and Sacramento. With Reno 1868 FC joining the USL in 2017, club President Eric Edelstein said he was excited to welcome a club of Liverpool’s stature to Nevada.

“We are overjoyed to host the U21s of one of the world’s most decorated football clubs for our first ever professional soccer match at Greater Nevada Field in downtown Reno,” said Reno 1868 FC President Eric Edelstein. “By bringing an English Premier League Club to Nevada for the first time, we will show the world that Reno is ready for professional soccer.”

Sacramento has hosted Premier League opposition in each of the past two years. In the club’s inaugural season, it played a pair of games against West Bromwich Albion, while last year it met both Newcastle United and Sunderland.

Republic FC claimed its first win against Premier League opposition in its game against Sunderland, as Cameron Iwasa scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory on July 14.

Tickets will go on sale to the general public on April 30 at 10 a.m. PT at Ticketmaster.com (Sacramento, May 21) and Ticketreturn.com (Reno, May 25). The game at Bonney Field is part of the Republic FC season-ticket holder package.
