Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC had Week 2 of the 2016 USL regular season off, but the club remained busy as it built toward its home opener this Saturday against Arizona United SC.

In addition to holding an intra-squad scrimmage last Saturday, the team also headed to Denver for a scrimmage against Metropolitan State University of Denver on Tuesday night to try and stay sharp. Coming off a 2-1 win against OKC Energy FC in their season opener, Switchbacks Coach Steve Trittschuh and the team continued to help its new faces bed into the team.

“We were able to work on some things that we thought we could improve on from Oklahoma City,” Trittschuh said on his weekly coach’s show. “I think the guys are going to play with confidence and we’re going to take it to Arizona this Saturday.”

Arizona comes in having taken one win out of three to start the season, but the improvement it has shown from game-to-game has caught Trittschuh’s attention. With Frank Yallop now leading the side, Trittschuh said the organization within the club’s new players was evident in its past two outings.

“The first game they weren’t very organized defensively and they got taken apart by LA, but the last two games they’ve got together, they’ve organized, and they’re a good team,” Trittschuh said. “They beat Seattle and then they lost to Sacramento in the last 10 minutes last weekend. We expect a good game.”

With a big rise in season-ticket holders and added amenities at Switchbacks Stadium for the new season, Trittschuh believes his side will have to work hard, but has a good chance to start the season off with consecutive victories.

“I know they’re going to come in here, their coach is very experienced, he’s had some good experience in MLS, so it’s going to be a hard-fought game,” Trittschuh said, “but I have confidence in the guys that  we’re going to bring the energy and take it to them Saturday.”
