BRISTOL, Conn. – Disney CEO Bob Iger announced on Tuesday in the company’s quarterly earnings call that ESPN+ had surpassed 2 million subscribers, continuing the remarkable growth of the digital platform that was launched last April.

The streaming platform, which became the new home for the USL Championship upon its launch early last season, had previously surpassed 1 million subscribers last September. The continued growth of the platform, which will remain the digital home of the Championship this season, was welcomed by USL executives as the visibility of the league continued to rise through its presence alongside top domestic and international soccer leagues and tournaments.

In addition to the Championship, ESPN+ has been the home for Major League Soccer, Italy’s Serie A, the Netherlands’ Eredivisie, the UEFA Nations League and Australia’s A-League, as well exclusive live games from Major League Baseball and the National Hockey League, a wide range of college sports and original daily content.

The USL Championship recently announced that Mike Watts would return as its national play-by-play voice for the 2019 season, which is set to kick off on the weekend of March 8-9 with a 17-game slate of action that will open the biggest season in the league’s history.
