Multi-year agreement will expand the USL Digital Network across all teams and properties

TAMPA, Fla. – The United Soccer League announced on Thursday it had renewed and expanded its partnership with SportsEngine Inc., an NBC Sports Group company. A league partner since 2016, SportsEngine stands as the leading sports technology provider in the United States.

“As a professional soccer league, we are always very excited when we find partners who align so closely with our goals and mission as an organization,” said USL Senior Vice President of Digital and Content Lizzie Seedhouse. “The mutual focus has been on providing digital innovation and resources for our leagues and teams, and we are excited to continue to build on the momentum we have generated thus far.”

The renewal of the partnership expands the reach of the entire digital network across all USL Championship, USL League One, and USL League Two properties, allowing for engaging digital content across all leagues and teams. The new agreement also extends to the USL Youth Academies, providing a unique opportunity to welcome this growing part of the USL family to benefit from the digital network.

The USL, which oversees the USL Championship, USL League One, and USL League Two, is the largest professional soccer organization in North America and possesses nearly a decade of experience in bringing the world’s game to communities across the United States and Canada. The organization is built on a established model in international football and counts more than 100 clubs in its membership.

“What excites us most about this renewal is knowing that the United Soccer League found value in our last three years working together as partners,” said John Weinerth, Soccer Vice President, SportsEngine. “The USL is the fastest growing professional sports league in North America and we are excited to power a small part of that growth through great technology for years to come.”

More than one million teams, leagues and clubs use SportsEngine to run their websites, tournaments, leagues, online registration and mobile apps. Through these applications, sports teams, clubs and leagues are able to drastically reduce the time they spend on administration and communication, allowing them to focus more time on developing their athletes. The USL joins the SportsEngine Enterprise roster of clients, which includes numerous other professional league partners and national governing bodies.

“It’s been extremely exciting to partner with the USL and work with each of the individual teams on digital strategy,” said Jessie Doig, Enterprise Business Executive, SportsEngine. “The partnership renewal was very focused on building additional value for teams locally as they build out their youth academies, so we are excited about engaging with the teams on a deeper level going forward.”

The USL and SportsEngine continue to expand the digital network into 2019 and beyond with the addition of new franchises – including 14 new professional clubs in the USL Championship and USL League One for the upcoming year – youth academy affiliates and League Two teams being onboarded onto the network.
