2018 All-League selection led Pittsburgh with eight assists in first season at club

PITTSBURGH – Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC announced on Thursday it had signed midfielder Kenardo Forbes to a new one-year deal with a club option for the 2020 season, pending league and federation approval.

The 30-year-old Jamaican had previously had his contract option for the 2019 USL Championship season picked up before agreeing to the new contract with the Hounds.

Selected to the 2018 USL Championship All-League team earlier this month, Forbes’ first season with the Hounds saw him lead the club with eight assists, and he finished tied for the team-lead in games played with 33 appearances as he led Riverhounds SC to a third-place finish in the Eastern Conference and its first home USL Cup Playoffs contest at Highmark Stadium.

“Kenardo is one of the few players in this league who can dictate the pace of a game on a consistent basis,” head coach Bob Lilley said. “With his versatility and soccer IQ, we’re able to employ him anywhere in the midfield. He’s just one of those players who makes the players around him better.”

A USL Cup champion in 2015 with the Rochester Rhinos, Forbes was previously named to the USL Championship All-League Second Team in 2016. Forbes is tied for fourth in the USL Championship’s history with 22 assists in the regular season, where he sits alongside current teammate Kevin Kerr, and has also recorded 13 goals in 118 regular-season appearances.
