USL Cup-winner claims honor for stunning free kick vs. Indy Eleven

TAMPA, Fla. – Louisville City FC forward Cameron Lancaster has earned the USL Fans’ Choice Goal of the Playoffs as his long-range free kick against Indy Eleven in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals took top spot in the online poll.

Lancaster, who claimed the 2018 USL Golden Boot with a league record 25 regular-season goals, sealed Louisville’s opening-round victory over the Eleven at Slugger Field with a spectacular free kick from distance. Lancaster stepped over the ball and fired a right-footed effort past Owain Fon Williams and into the top-left corner of the net to give the hosts a 4-1 victory at Slugger Field to kick off their USL Cup title defense.

Lancaster’s goal earned 40 percent of the poll conducted online at USLSoccer.com that concluded on Wednesday. Phoenix Rising FC forward Didier Drogba finished second with 33 percent for his trademark free kick in his side’s Western Conference Quarterfinals victory over the Portland Timbers 2, while FC Cincinnati’s Corben Bone took third with 18 percent for his blistering strike from the top of the box in FCC’s eventual penalty shootout victory over Nashville SC in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals.
